Dollinson or Donelson?

Mary Margaret _____ Patterson Addams wrote her will in 1744 (Orange / Augusta Co Va) and named a grand daughter in the will, Margaret "Dollinson". There is little doubt as to whether this was the same person as Margaret Donelson, later mentioned in Augusta Co VA in 1755, after her father (Andrew Donelson) died. Here is the extract:

ABSTRACTS OF WILLS OF AUGUSTA COUNTY, VIRGINIA.
AUGUSTA COUNTY COURT.
WILL BOOK No. 2.
Page 84.--19th March, 1755. Daniel Love's bond as guardian (chosen) to Margaret Donelson, orphan of Andrew Donelson, with sureties Ephraim Love, David Ralstone.

Given the fact that Daniel Love was chosen as guardian, that adds a lot of credence to the probability these two Margarets were the same person (Dollinson and Donelson). Daniel Love was the uncle to Margaret Donelson, as both were named in the 1744 will of Margaret Addams.

I would like to thank Todd Young for pointing out the above court extract to me in November, 2003.

Another source of information regarding this Andrew Donelson family is Marjorie Sutherland. Here is an extract from an online post in 1999:

Capt. John Donelson and his wife Catherine Davis lived and died in Somerset Co MD. They had Andrew in 1722, John in 1726, Mary in 1730, and William in 1737... all born in Somerset Co MD. Marjorie points out that Andrew married someone (we know her to have been the daughter of Margaret Addams) and had children born in the early to mid 1740s in PA. We know that Daniel Love came from PA in the 1740s, and he, too, married a daughter of Margaret Addams, to wit: Jane Addams. It is feasible to me that Daniel Love and Andrew Donelson were most likely living in the same part of PA and that perhaps the Pattersons and Addams left Sussex Co DE and travelled through PA on their way to the valley of VA. We also learn from Marjorie's post that Andrew Donelson had three children, to wit: Margaret Donelson, Robert Donelson (b 1743), and Humphrey Donelson.

I believe that these three siblings are listed in order of age above... Margaret, Robert and Humphrey. I also believe they were all born by 1744. It seems that their mother had died by the time Margaret Addams wrote her will in 1744, so my guess is that Margaret Donelson may have been born ca 1741/42, then Robert in 1743, and Humphrey ca 1744. It seems to me that their parents, Andrew Donelson and _____ Addams were born around 1722, roughly. Given that Ms Addams was born 1720-22, that is why I believe her to be the daughter of John Addams and Margaret _____ Patterson Addams, rather than a daughter of Margaret by her first husband, William Patterson. The children from that marriage seem to have been born b/w 1709 and 1711, give or take a couple years. John and Margaret Addams' children (Samuel and Jane) both seem to have been born in the 1720s, thus the reason for including this daughter also, who married Andrew Donelson ca 1740/41 I'm guessing.
