d married Gravet Foster. I don't see a daughter in the 1820 census for John that would have been 3 years old. These may be two different Margarets, but the one that married Gravet Foster was not John and Margaret Black Patterson's daughter, but rather their granddaughter, by Joseph.

Joseph's granddaughter, Mary Patterson Fountain (dau. of WC Patterson) compiled a list in 1908 of John and Margaret's children and grandchildren. In that list she had the oldest daughter as Margaret "Peggy" Patterson, marrying Grady Fo(r)ster. She may have had the Peggy correct, but we know Gravet Foster was not this Peggy's husband.

Mary P. Fountain also had John & Margaret's son Robert as the oldest and marrying Cassie Pulaski, with a son named John Patterson. Again, I believe this to have been a correct son of John and Margaret (Robert, that is), but I believe she was remembering the wrong Robert as far as his family. I believe that John & Margaret's Robert died 1810-1820. I could be wrong on this one, but I don't know of any Cassie Pulasky. There was a Cassandra Pence that married "a Patterson". It is very possible that this is the Robert and Cassie P. Patterson that Mary P. Fountain remembered. But who was that Robert? Was he the son of J&M? Was he a nephew of J&M?

And lastly, there was a third daughter of J&M according to the 1800 Buncombe census. Who was she? And did she die young? If so, that would explain why Mary P. Fountain wouldn't have remembered her. I still maintain that we should not forget the widow of James Morrow, Elizabeth. She shows up in 1840 Union Co Ga right next to J&M Patterson. She seems like she may have been a daughter, but I can't prove it.
