In 1870 in Rusk Co., Tx they were listed as:

SK's mother was named Rebecca, and Mary's mother was named Elizabeth, thus SK and Mary's oldest daughter was named after her two grandmothers.

The fact that it spells out Silas as his name, we definitely know that this man was named Silas K. Patterson, born in 1829 in Ga. This HAS to be the same man as Silas Kimsey Patterson born in 1829 in the Cherokee Lands of north Ga, in the area that became Union County, Ga in 1832. Again, some researchers have listed him as the son of Amos and Elizabeth Wilson Patterson, but I have always believed this to be incorrect. Many other researchers have agreed with me that Silas Kimsey Patterson did not fit as the son of Amos. He DOES fit as the second son of George and Rebecca Chastain Patterson. This George was the older brother of the afore-mentioned Amos.

Rusk county, Texas has a rich history. A good website to research this more thoroughly is at http://www.hendersontx.com/history.html. This website focuses on Rusk county and its county seat, Henderson, Texas. One note about Rusk county in the 1860's was that "Rusk County, the largest county in Texas in the 1860's, sent more men to fight in the Civil War than any other county in Texas." (taken from the afore-mentioned website).

According to the Rusk Co, Tx marriages:
S. K. Patterson married Mary F. Jowell on Dec 13 1855

The Rusk Co., Tx website lists Land Grants from early Texas records. On that list were two records for land granted to a Robert Patterson (both on abstract 630), one for Amos Patterson (abstract 652), and one for SK Patterson (Silas Kimsey Patterson, no doubt) - (abstract 653). Robert appears to be from a different line of Pattersons, while Amos and SK were clearly "working together". Amos was SK's uncle.
