My son descends from the Palmers through his mother, Elaine Palmer. Her father was Jack Durham Palmer, son of Walter Elmer Palmer, son of Presley and Betty Cox Palmer, son of Elias and Mary Dollahide Palmer. Elias was the son of Elijah and Charity George Palmer. Elijah was the son of Elias and Nancy Hoskins Palmer, both from Halifax Co, Va originally. Nancy Hoskins was Native American according to information I have received from several sources over the years. Likewise, Elias was either half or full blood Native American. Apparently, Elias was orphaned and than taken in by the Palmer family of Halifax Co, thus he took their name Palmer but was no blood relation to them.
This line of Palmers quite often spelled their name Parmer throughout the generations. They pronounced it like "Pahmer". In 1870, Elijah Parmer was living in Kentucky and wrote a letter to his son Elias in Stokes Co NC. Elijah's unmarried daughter Nancy was living with him at the time, and she, too wrote a letter to Elias. Both letters are included below:
