Book Elijah Chastain

Elijah Chastain was my 4x-Great-Grandpa. He was born on 25 Mar 1776 in what is now Buckingham Co, VA. Elijah Chastain died on 08 Mar 1853 in Gilmer Co, GA. He had at least 23 children by three wives - Hannah Adams, Anna Middleton, and Catherine (Kathy) Carson. In the book I will show as many details as I've gathered on these 23 children, 20 of whom married and had their own children. 

The numbers I documented from my exhaustive research and have included in the book are:

1. 23 Children
2. 168+ Grandchildren
3. 806+ Great-Grandchildren

There were also at least 91 descendants or husbands of descendants of Elijah Chastain who served in the Civil War. Details regarding them are also included.

I do not know of any other published work that has covered all three of Elijah's families. Some have focused one or the other, or perhaps two of them, but not all three. This has been my goal in producing this next installment of Butterfly Biographies.

This book is 422 pages and is fully indexed. Many maps and charts are included. Also, there is a Tour Guide in an Appendix that contains QR codes for quick scanning that will point you directly on Google Maps to where that particular location is, should you be interested in visiting it some day.

Elijah Chastain of Caney Fork, Haywood County, North Carolina also briefly touches on the ancestors of Elijah Chastain. He was the son of the Rev. John Chastain and his first wife Mary O'Bryan. John was a Revolutionary War Patriot and is recognized by the DAR (#A021238). John was the grandson of the French Huguenot immigrant Pierre Chastain Sr. 

I descend from the French Huguenot immigrant ancestor as follows:

2. Peter Chastain Jr (1707-1775)
3. John Chastain (DAR Patriot) (1743-1805)
4. Elijah Chastain (1776-1853)
5. Rebecca Chastain (1799-1845/7) - m. George Patterson (1800-1860)
6. William Harden (Bill) Patterson (1832-1884)
7. Joseph Elijah (Lige) Patterson (1871-1957)
8. Clinton Willie (Clint) Patterson (1904-1975)
9. Francis Oliver (Frank) Patterson (1940-2015)
10. Charles Wesley (Wes) Patterson

As I glance at this lineage, I am struck by the number of children each generation had during the first six (6) of those generations. 

1. Pierre Chastain had at least 16 children. 
2. Peter Chastain Jr had at least 10 children. 
3. John Chastain had at least 14 children. 
4. Elijah Chastain had at least 23 children. 
5. George Patterson had at least 13 children. 
6. Bill Patterson had 12 children. 

That's a lot of kids!!!
