My Maternal Grandmother's Ancestors: Langley, et al
By Wes Patterson (Last Revised: 15 December 2023)
Milbry Langley's father was named Dr. Joiner Langley, son of Nathaniel (Nathan) Langley and Elizabeth Joyner. I have recently learned that G.D. Langley and his cousin Milbry were 1st cousins. There was an older man named Oswald Langley in many old records of eastern NC that both branches may trace back to. More research needs to take place.
Recently, I have learned that Dr. Joiner Langley and William Langley were brothers. They were both sons of Nathan and Elizabeth Joyner Langley. Nathan Langley died before 19 Feb 1796 in Nash Co, NC. He was born ca. 1767. Nathan had at least two brothers, one named John Langley and the other's name is not known for sure. Nathan and his brothers were sons of Amy ____ and (?)David Langley. Amy is certain, but the father's name being David is not certain.
Elizabeth Joyner, wife of Nathan Langley, was the son of John Joyner who died in 1811 in Nash Co, NC. John was a Rev. War Patriot. John was the son of Joshua Joyner and Patience Lane. John Joyner, the Patriot, was married to Elizabeth Joyner, a cousin. She was the daughter of William Joyner and Sealey Joiner. William was also a Rev. War Patriot.
As mentioned earlier, my GG-GF was George Nickolson Langley. After my great-grandfather, George Thomas Langley, was born in 1886, the family moved to the Greensboro, NC area of Guilford Co. This was when the factories and mills were growing and employment was available.
